How to keep your 2018 New Year's Resolutions
Blog

This year isn’t about focusing on one New Year’s resolution, it’s about creating an overall amazing year for yourself.

Instead of focusing on one specific goal that may probably be left in the dark by February, it’s time to think about switching up small components of your life.

At Core Focus Pilates we have come up with 5 tips for keeping your 2018 goals and aspirations on the right track.

1. Find an exercise class you love

Doing what you love is easy, especially if it involves binge watching Netflix with a sheet mask. However, when it comes to exercise, most people look at it like a 30 minute daily chore. This mind frame makes it hard when it comes to fitting exercise into a tight schedule. If you’re not looking forward to it, it will go to the bottom of your daily checklist.

Pilates is a great way to strengthen your core, keep toned and socialise with your besties. Before you know it, class is over and your dreaded exercise is done for the day! Whether it’s Pilates or another fitness class, find something you can enjoy. And while you might not be skipping to class every day, try to change your mind-set and how you approach exercise. This can make all the difference!

2. Give up one indulgence

Don’t go full steam ahead when it comes to cutting things out of your diet. Deciding you are going to cut carbs in 2018 can a huge lifestyle change. Instead, pick one guilty pleasure you may have, (if it’s daily all the better) and switch it to something a little healthier. The whole point of this tip is to maintain control without feeling like you have deprived yourself. You might find yourself building on the one guilty pleasure by cutting out more bad habits the more motivated you become.

3. Target Small Habits

Nothing is ever too little when it comes to your daily habits. Start by taking the stairs and avoid escalators and elevators when you can. Take your morning coffee without sugar, go for a walk around the neighbourhood and clear your mind. Park a few blocks away when you shop or head to work, this will enable an extra little energy exertion for the day.

4. Walking in between classes during

It can be difficult to attend your pilates class daily. Although it can be beneficial to lock in a daily workout, sometimes giving yourself a break can be crucial. Put your sneakers on and take a walk along the coast, unwinding your brain is also an important task. Stress can hinder weight loss and other aspects of your lifestyle, so take time to chill out in 2018.

5. Create a Mood board

Wanting to make your dreams reality can be difficult, especially when they seem so far out of reach. It has been said that once you write down your goals you are one step closer to achieving them. Therefore, creating a mood board for 2018 is a great start. Create a Pinterest mood board online or grab your fave magazines and get cutting and pasting. You’d be surprised at how refreshing it is to get your goals and aspirations, out of your head and onto a board!

These five tips are healthy, powerful steps to guide you in the right direction for 2018. We hope all you are having a great new year so far and we can’t wait to see new faces this year at our Core Focus Pilates Studios.
